THE PRIVATE ISLAND DAY

OLHÃO / RIA FORMOSA

Settle into the Algarve’s island rhythm: a gentle departure, time on the water and an unhurried pause in a suitable sheltered spot.

Sail. Pause. Explore.

PRIVATE DAY / ABOUT 6-8 HOURS

A tailored local outing from Olhão, with a swim when conditions allow and lunch aboard or an agreed island restaurant stop.

LOCAL SUNSET / ABOUT 2-3 HOURS

A short local return outing from Olhão, timed to the season and the tide. Add a light tasting board, refreshments or a personal celebration to your proposal.

Make an evening of it

A local sunset is not a coastal transfer to Lagos or Portimão. Route, catering and all inclusions are agreed in advance.

PRIVATE CHARTERS

YOUR PEOPLE. YOUR PACE.

Let the coastline unfold over more than a day. A skippered private charter creates space for sailing, good food and time together, without trying to fit every harbour into one afternoon.

  1. The coastal escape / 2-3 nights

A relaxed short charter with overnight berths or anchorages selected around conditions, and time for the Ria Formosa or a coastal passage.

  2. Your Algarve week / 5-7 nights

A bespoke coastal journey, with an achievable mix of sailing, harbour visits and quieter days. One-way trips and transfers can be discussed.

  3. An island chapter / By request

Explore a private stay aboard in the Canaries or Madeira when ZERO is positioned there. Repositioning and offshore passages are separate arrangements.

All durations are suggested formats. Overnight guest/crew berths, route and commercial terms are confirmed individually.

SHAPED AROUND YOU

Choose simple onboard provisioning, a prepared lunch or a shore reservation where feasible. Birthdays, proposals and private gatherings can be styled to suit.

These are optional elements, not automatic inclusions. Water activities and shore visits depend on suitable conditions and arrangements.

OUR PARTNERS / RU SAILING

LAGOS / SAIL TRAINING

View from ZERO’s cockpit towards the sail, mast and blue sky.

RU Sailing

Our sail-training partner in Lagos, RU Sailing is an RYA-recognised training centre offering practical and theory courses, specialist coaching and its own mileage-building programmes.

A useful next step before a longer passage: discuss the skills you want to develop, preparation for a course or exam, and whether dedicated tuition is appropriate.

Sailing experience + a clear training path

ZERO voyages build experience. Formal instruction, assessment and certification are separately agreed with RU Sailing. No RYA recognition of ZERO, onboard course or guaranteed qualification is implied.

Artur Watersports Academy

Our watersports partner at Quinta do Lago adds another dimension to an Algarve stay: lake sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and family activities.

Pair a ZERO sailing day with a separate session at the lake. Lessons, age requirements, equipment, seasonal opening and transfers are confirmed with Artur’s team.

VILAMOURA / THE CRAFT BEHIND THE SAIL

Dune Algarve Sailmakers

Our sailmaking partner brings specialist knowledge to the fabric of sailing: new sails, sail maintenance and repair, nautical covers and upholstery.

Based in Vilamoura, Dune serves marinas across the Algarve and southern Spain. A considered technical relationship supports the preparation behind memorable time afloat.

For owners inspired by the voyage, we can introduce a separate sail or canvas brief. Technical work and quotations are agreed directly for the vessel and scope concerned.

Three chapters. One Atlantic story.

OLHÃO / CANARY ISLANDS / MADEIRA / OLHÃO

Join a selected passage or discuss the complete circuit. This is participatory sailing: watches, changing horizons and the satisfaction of arriving by sea.

Indicative core circuit, not guaranteed mileage. Island cruising adds distance. Each stop creates a separate passage; this is not one continuous qualifying voyage.

CHAPTER TWO / MADEIRA

THE CANARIES TO MADEIRA

Trade volcanic shores for Madeira’s dramatic coastline. The northbound passage is a distinct sailing challenge, planned for its own weather window rather than treated as the outbound trip in reverse.

Make space for rest, a day ashore and a change of pace. The final port, berth, route and time on the island follow conditions and availability.

CHAPTER THREE / HOME TO OLHÃO

MADEIRA / PORTO SANTO / THE ALGARVE

The view aboard ZERO.

A Madeira stay can be followed by Porto Santo, before the open-water passage back towards Olhão. The satisfaction is not simply in the miles: it is in settling into the watch, making better decisions and seeing familiar land again.

Plan for the real journey

Allow a separate return-weather allowance. Flexible onward travel matters: a flight or meeting must never become a reason to sail in unsuitable conditions.

Protected areas and restricted anchorages are not included by default. Permissions and suitable conditions must be confirmed for any optional stop.

MILE BUILDING / MORE THAN A NUMBER

SAILING THAT INVOLVES YOU

For sailors who want to grow in confidence, a passage aboard ZERO is active participation, not a promise of a qualification. Start with your experience, your logbook and what you want to learn.

  1. Before departure / Prepare

Contribute to the passage brief, weather discussion, provisioning, stowage and a practical safety familiarisation.

  2. On watch / Participate

Practise lookout, helming, navigation cross-checks and sail handling under the agreed supervision. Roles match competence and conditions.

  3. After arrival / Reflect

Review the route, decisions and what you would do differently. Confidence grows through involvement and an honest debrief.

  4. Your passage log / Record

Record actual miles, dates, hours, night sailing and the role you genuinely performed, with skipper verification where appropriate.

RYA eligibility depends on the actual passage and your role. Brochure mileage is not proof of a qualifying passage; several legs cannot be added together and called one continuous Ocean passage.

ATLANTIC PASSAGES

Offshore departures are selected for the route and crew, not a brochure calendar. Northbound and southbound legs need separate assessments.

Before an offshore booking we discuss experience, fitness for the trip, seasickness concerns, night watches, rest and practical travel flexibility. Bring suitable layers and a soft bag; the final joining brief specifies the equipment required.

No fixed departure dates, arrival deadlines, sea-state guarantees or year-round availability are advertised in this edition.
